Silver Knights Robotics

Severance Robotics strives to ensure equal educational opportunities for all students of Severance High School for the exploration and discovery of engineering concepts through robotics. We offer instructional and extracurricular activities aimed at reaching this goal. Our commitment to the Severance community is a part of all our actions. We seek to:

  • Introduce students to basic concepts of robotics.
  • Provide the opportunity for the students to design and build mechanical assemblies and gain intuitive insight into identifying the weak links and failure mechanisms of various structures.
  • Provide the opportunity for the students to learn about computer aided design tools.
  • Provide the opportunity for students to learn how to write code that interfaces with various equipment.
  • Introduce students to a simulated engineering environment so that they may develop the skills necessary to succeed in engineering programs in higher education.
  • Offer students an opportunity to learn the value of lifelong community service and the chance to help others.

FIRST Tech Challenge

The Silver Knights Robotics team participates in the FIRST Tech Challenge which was founded in 1989. The mission of FIRST is, “to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.”
